Ronaldo to Jump Ship to Real MadridPortuguese Winger to Make His Dream Move to Spain
Cristiano Ronaldo is confident that his "historic" deal will go through and that he will become a Real Madrid player this summer.
Ronaldo says he learned about the deal “on holiday” after “he expressed his desire to leave”. He will now undergo a medical and agree terms that will make him the biggest earner in world football. This brings an end to years of speculation as to whether Ronaldo would jump ship to Spain and it seems his “dream” of playing for the white of Real will finally be realised. Talented Youngster to Football's Finest PlayerDuring those speculative years, Ronaldo has transformed from being a talented youngster to football’s finest player. Having moved to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 for £12 million, he made his first team debut as a 60th minute substitute in United’s 4-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers. Later that season he scored his first goal for the club with a free kick against Portsmouth. From there he went from strength to strength delighting crowds with his trickery and audacious goals. Ronaldo Rewarded For On Field BrillianceRonaldo picked up FIFPRO Special Young Player of the Year award in 2005 and was then the PFA Young Player of the year in the 2006-2007 season. He followed that campaign with forty two goals in the 2007-2008 term which single-handedly won United the Premier League title and helped the Old Trafford club win the Champions League. After this wonderful season he was rewarded again, this time being the first Premier League player ever to be named the FIFA World Player of the year. Ronaldo Has a Reputation of DivingAmid all of these outstanding achievements, Ronaldo had gained a reputation of diving and being too fanciful with his tricks, he also never let the prospect of joining Real Madrid leave his mind and his response’s to the world media when asked of his future plans were always ambiguous. It seemed that a move to Real Madrid was “absolutely inevitable” as Mike Ingham, Chief Football Correspondent for BBC Radio Five Live said. With Ronaldo now on the verge of leaving Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson will certainly be looking for an adequate replacement for the Portuguese sensation. Wigan Chairman, Dave Whelan, has said that Ferguson has contacted the club to enquire about the availability of Wilson Palacios, the Premier League side’s star winger, but there will be doubts about whether the 24 year old Honduran International will be able to fill the boots of the departing world player of the year. Suitable Replacement Would be Alexandro PatoA suitable replacement would be Alexandro Pato from AC Milan. Technically gifted and a rising star in the game, Pato would fit the bill but Ferguson would have to high jack his prospective move to Chelsea in order to prize him to Manchester, and Pato feels loyalty to Ancelotti, his former boss and now head coach at Chelsea, so any deal between Manchester United and Milan would be highly ambitious. Sergio Aguero, Athletico Madrid’s striker, would be a good option. The Argentinean forward is young, full of class and technically outstanding. Lyon’s striker, Benzema, is also another figure that could add a different dimension to the Old Trafford ranks. Yet there are doubts as to how much of the reported £80 million Ferguson will be allowed to spend on new players. The Glazers, the family who owns Manchester United, have substantial debts so the Ronaldo money could ease their financial worries somewhat leaving Ferguson with half the funds to sign a striker. Ferguson Should be ShrewdWhat is clear is that Sir Alex Ferguson will have to be shrewd this summer to find the right individual who can even come close to following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo.
