Brazil faces Cameroon and Argentina clashes with the Netherlands in two enticing Olympic Games quarterfinals soccer matches

Saturday August 16 at Shenyang Olympic stadium

Brazil - Cameroon

Brazil will be looking to get sweet revenge after Cameroon eliminated them from the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games of Sydney 2000, with a Golden Goal. The Selecao has lost in its last three matches against African nations in the Olympic Games, but seems too strong to let this happen once again. The highly fancied Brazilians know that they have what it takes to reach the semifinals and should get the better of an African side who struggled during crucial moments of the first round.

Brazil, who scored nine goals and conceded none in the group stage, will be led by Ronaldinho, who has been in good form so far in the competition. Taking a look at both line-ups it should be an action packed match, that is likely to be won by the side with the greater hunger to succeed. This side should be Carlos Dunga's Brazil. The Brazilians have never won the Olympic Gold, but with the enormous quality in their squad they look more than capable of doing this.

Having scored so many goals in the group phase of the competition, there's little doubt the Brazilians will be a huge menace in the attack. Brazil is likely to apply heavy pressure on Cameroon throughout the match, and should manage to eliminate the Africans without too much trouble.

Prediction:

Brazil 3-1 Cameroon

Argentina - The Netherlands

This will surely be the match of the tournament so far: two world powers who have a lot to prove to the world and their fans back home. The Argentines come into the quarterfinal as the firm favorites, although everyone knows that the Dutch have the potential to pull a surprise out of the hat at any moment. Argentina has won all three of its matches so far (quite convincingly) but will finally meet an opponent who deserves its respect.

With Lionel Messi, Juan Roman Riquelme and Sergio Aguero back in Sergio Batista's strong XI Los Albicelestes should be able to overcome the Dutch. But as Batista said in a pre-match press conference they will have to be very cautious if they don't want to experience any unwanted surprises. A big blow for the Dutch, in their aims to go through, will be the absence of overage striker Roy Makaay. Still, they will count with Gerard Sibon, the 34-year-old who has notched up two goals in the tournament so far.

But Argentina has huge depth in all areas of the field, and counts with a player with the quality of Messi, someone who is capable of penetrating any defense in the world at relative ease. Expect a great performance from the Barcelona superstar.

Match Prediction:

Argentina 2-1 Holland
