World football fans are catching a glimpse of tomorrow’s today at the U20 FIFA World Cup in Egypt. Daniel Parejo, Andre Dede Ayew, Fabio Sciacca, Krisztian Nemeth and Douglas Costa represent some of the biggest talent coming up the ranks. Daniel Parejo – SpainWith Bojan Krkic out for the Spaniards, the 20-year-old Parejo has been called upon to lead the Iberians. In 2007, Parejo helped Spain to the title at the U19 European Championship, hitting the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Greece. Parejo is the creative force behind the Spanish U20 side with strengths such as scoring ability, strong set-play taker and fine passer. Things did not work for Parejo at Real Madrid so he went to Queens Park Rangers and eventually landed at FC Getafe. Andre Dede Ayew – GhanaHe is the small Pele – not because he reminds observers of the Brazilian legend but because he is the son of former Ghana great Abedi Pele. The left-footed striker/winger is owned by French power Olympique Marseille but is on loan to second division AC Arles. Ayew’s career for Ghana has been much better than his club career. As a 17-year-old he made his debut in Ghana’s senior side and has already earned 15 caps as a 19-year-old. At the U20s in Egypt, he is Ghana’s main hope after leading the Black Stars to the African U20 gold medal. Fabio Sciacca – ItalyThe 20-year-old midfielder from Catania is Italy’s main creative force at the U20s. A fine technical player, Sciacca is a true strategist who enjoys bringing the ball from the back and racing forward. The right-footed talent made his Serie A debut in April 2009 and regularly played over the final weeks of the season. Sciacca has not found a rhythm at the club level in 2009-10 but he is irreplaceable for Italian U20 coach Francesco Rocca. Krisztian Nemeth – HungaryHungary’s group with South Africa, Honduras and the United Arab Emirates appears winnable but mainly because they have among their ranks the striker Nemeth, who is in superb form. In the first four games for AEK Athens this season – on loan from Liverpool – Nemeth scored two goals, representing half of the team’s goals early on. And things usually go just as well when he suits up for Hungary. He scored 11 goals in nine games for the U17 team; 14 goals in 15 U19 caps; one goal in two U20 appearances and 13 goals in 10 games for the U21 side. Douglas Costa – BrazilThe 18-year-old attacking midfielder is probably the best dribbler of the U20 World Cup. His left foot is a real weapon and his free-kicks are always lethal. It’s no surprise that European giants such as Juventus Turin, Real Madrid and Manchester United are after the Brazilian youngster. Drawing comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo, Costas currently plays for Gremio Porto Alegre. And he hopes to lead Brazil to their fifth U20 world title.
